APPELLATION: DOC DÃO

GRAPE VARIETIES: Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro and Jaen

TASTING NOTES: Deep red color with purple reflections. Aromas of red forest fruits, spices, mocha and light notes of tobacco. In the mouth it is fresh, velvety, with elegant tannins giving complexity and balance.

VINEYARD: The grapes that gave rise to this wine come exclusively from the vineyards of the Palácio dos Condes de Anadia in Mangualde, located at approximately 500 meters of altitude, on a plateau of granite soils where There are plenty of typical Dão forest reserves around, with pine, cedar and oak. Touriga Nacional, responsible for the fame of Dão wines, is the most represented variety (50%), accompanied de Jaen (25%), Alfrocheiro (15%).

VINTAGE 2017

The year was extremely dry, atypical of a drought like no other in Dão. As a result of climatic conditions, we found that all phases of the vegetative cycle were precocious, with the bud break and flowering taking place without problems and the veraison starting in the second half of July. The very hot weather continued during the maturation period, thus causing a rapid ripening of the grapes, which led to the beginning of the harvest in the first days of September. It was a year very good, with the wines being very balanced and elegant.

WINEMAKING: Fresh grapes at their ideal ripening point, picked by hand into 20kg boxes. After de-stemming and gentle crushing, the grapes underwent five days of cold maceration. Fermentation took place over of ten days, with daily “delestage”. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine aged in barrels French oak for 18 months and subsequent ageing in the bottle.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Recommended to accompany good gastronomy, especially game dishes and roast meat. Serve at a temperature of 16ºC.
